Steps to Applying for Aid - How to Apply

Step 1:

Apply for admission to Aims Community College.  This can be done online at
www.aims.edu by clicking on the ‘Apply Now!’ option from the menu on the left.

Step 2:

Receive your FREE four digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the U.S. Department of Education.  This PIN will allow you to sign your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), make necessary corrections online and print out a copy of the results of your FAFSA.  Please note:  If you must include your parent’s information on your FAFSA, a parent should also apply for a PIN.

Step 3:

Complete your FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by going to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov

If you will be attending Aims Community College in spring and/or summer 2012 you will need to complete the 2011-2012 application.

If you will be attending  Aims Community College in the fall 2012, spring and/or summer 2013 you will need to complete the 2012-2013 application.  Please be sure to include Aims’ federal school code on the application (school code:  007582).

Step 4:

If your FAFSA was signed electronically, it was take 5 - 7 business days for the Central Processing System to process the application.  Once processed, an electronic copy of the results will be available to the school you listed on the application.  Our office loads the electronic results weekly.  You will be notified through U.S. Mail should our office need additional documents from you to determine your financial aid eligibility.  In addition, you can view the progress of your financial aid application online through your Aims Student Account.

You will also receive a copy of the results of your FAFSA.  If you provided an email address on your FAFSA, you will be notified of the results via email.  If an email address was not provided, a paper copy of the results will be mailed to the mailing address on the application.  Be sure to review these results to ensure the information processed is correct.

Step 5:

Once your financial aid file is complete with our office it will go through a review.  Should there be incomplete or conflicting information, we will request additional documentation.  This will delay the processing of your financial aid.
