Construction Updates

December 2009

  • Aims Automotive and Technology Center
    The construction of the building is in the final stages of completion and is currently being prepared for Aims Community College to move in.  Final cleaning is in process as well as final inspections for the plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems. The Windsor Fire Department has inspected and passed the Life Safety systems and Safebuilt of Colorado has inspected the building for compliance with the current building codes. Move in date is scheduled for December 14th and the overall move process should be completed by January 8th.

     
  • College Center Remodel
    Facilities would like to thank all of you who attended the guided tours of the College Center on November 24th. Metal stud framing is almost completed and in wall electrical is currently being installed to get ready for dry wall to start in mid December. Dry wall should be completed by the end of January 2010. Work is continuing on the mechanical systems above the ceiling. The columns for the covered walkway are almost complete and the foundation for the dining addition has been poured and backfilled. Steel framing for the dining addition and covered walkway should start by mid December. The new parking lot has been delayed due to multiple snow storms and cold weather. The concrete curb and gutter has been completed. Paving is scheduled for mid December, but the weather is being very uncooperative. Keep your fingers crossed.  

November 2009

  • College Center Phase 2 (Remodel of Hansen for Classrooms)
    The steering committee is meeting with members of the design team to review options for the remodeling of this building. The project is still in the programming stage and is expected to enter the design stage by the end of the year.  Design is anticipated to conclude in spring with an anticipated construction start date towards the end of May 2010.

  • Berthoud Site
    The architect selection committee has interviewed firms who met the pre-qualification requirements.  The committee is reviewing information and gathering additional information.

  • Aims Automotive and Technology Center
    The exterior of the building is nearing completion while the interior is being painted and outfitted with all mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment. The ceiling grids have been installed and the bathrooms are completed. The Service Shop is being outfitted with new auto lifts and the paint booths are ready for testing. All utilities have been completed to the building and we are waiting to get the phone service up and running. The landscaping is 90% complete and the perimeter fencing is complete. The building is scheduled to be completed by mid December.

  • College Center Remodel Project
    The demolition phase of the project has been completed. Plumbing, electrical and mechanical equipment and wiring are being installed. New metal stud wall framing is completed on the second floor and framing is beginning on the first floor. Exterior work on the west side of the building has begun with the concrete footer work beginning this month. The new College Center parking lot is progressing with the excavation to be completed by mid November. Concrete curb and gutter work should be completed by the middle of November with paving to be completed by the end of November depending on weather. The College Center is expected to be completed in May 2010.

September 2009

  • Berthoud
    The College is currently in the RFQ process for architectural firms for the Berthoud Campus.  The decision at this time is to design the new campus but not yet proceed with construction.

  • Horizon Hall
    The design team will begin meeting with members of the steering committee to start design  in late September.  The plan is to begin construction at the end of the spring 2010 term.

  • College Center Remodel
    Demolition on the inside of the College Center is nearly complete. We are waiting for the State permit to start new construction work inside the building.   New work should begin around the middle of September. The new south Parking Lot should be started by the end of September and be completed by  the end of November.

  • Auto Center Building
    The exterior building shell is nearly complete. All interior building slabs have been poured and work on electrical and mechanical systems is progressing. The roofing is nearly complete and the first layer of asphalt on all the parking lots has been installed. The interior framing has been completed on the West end office/classrooms area and dry wall is being installed. The paint booths have been installed and all interior block walls are nearly completed.

June 2009

  • College Center Remodel
    The relocation of programs/personnel out of the College Center is complete.  The project is now entering the design development phase and demolition is scheduled to begin at the end of June.  Floor plans for the project are available for review in Beaty Hall room 127C through June 25th.

  • Berthoud Master Plan
    The master plan for the new site at Berthoud is nearing completion.  The plan will be presented at the August 5th Board of Trustees meeting.

  • Generator Project
    Final testing is scheduled for June 20th of the main campus backup generators. The data center generator is complete.

  • Allied Health & Sciences Classroom Build-out:
    The above ceiling mechanical systems have been completed and are ready for engineers testing and inspections.

    The electrical has been completed, except for a delay in delivery of light fixtures, which should be installed by June 19th.

    Doors and hardware are scheduled to be installed by June 19th. The ceiling tile is to be installed by June 24th. Carpet in classrooms and vinyl in hallway will be completed by June 30th. Final touch up and inspections will be completed by July 3rd. Classroom furniture will be delivered and installed by July 8th.All three Classrooms should be ready for use the week of July 13th.

  • Aims Auto Center Building – Windsor
    Steel roof framing is being erected for the West end of the building containing the offices and general education classrooms.

    Steel joists and decking are being completed for the 2nd level storage areas this week. The steel roof framing and decking, for the main portion of the building, will be started next week and completed by mid July. Under slab utilities are scheduled to start the middle of June and be completed by the middle of July. Concrete interior slabs are scheduled to be poured starting the middle of July and completed by the middle of August. Mechanical and electrical equipment installation and rough-ins are scheduled to start the end of June and be completed around Labor Day weekend. The concrete curb & gutter and road base has been installed for the entry road and the first lift of paving should be installed by June 12th  depending on the weather. Site utilities are proceeding, with the electrical service scheduled to be completed by the middle of July and the gas service scheduled to be completed by the middle of August. The building construction is scheduled to be completed by the middle of December, 2008.

May 2009

  • Allied Health & Science First Floor Tenant Improvement
    The mechanical and electrical rough ins have been completed. The walls have been insulated, dry walled and painted and the ceiling grid is going in as this article is being written. The schedule for the next couple of weeks is to complete the above ceiling mechanical, trim electrical and pull in IT cabling. The construction portion of the project looks to be completed by the middle of June.

  • Auto Center Building in Windsor
    All exterior concrete precast wall panels have been erected. Preparation for structural steel is taking place this week. Next week the steel erector is scheduled to start placing steel beams and columns. Steel stud exterior walls are being erected where possible. All light pole bases have been installed. Back filling of the exterior foundation walls should be completed this week. The structural steel should be completed by the end of June including the roof joists and decking. Mechanical rough ins should start the middle of June. The entry curb, gutter and sidewalks should be installed by the beginning of June and the first lift of asphalt should be installed on the entry road by the middle part of June.

January 2009

  • Emergency Generator Project
    Back up generator for the General Services Building installed; final preparations are in process to tie in the new generators serving the campus with an anticipated completion date of February 14, 2009.

  • Pedestrian Promenade
    Design work for the new pedestrian promenade is nearing completion.  Construction of this project is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2009.

  • College Center Remodel
    DLR Group was selected to be the architect for this project.  Programming meetings with user groups is scheduled to occur during the late January early February 2009 time period.

    The Relocation Task Force is meeting on a regular basis and is developing the location schedule for those who will be relocated while the remodeling occurs during the July 1, 2009 – July 1, 2010 time frame.

  • Aims Automotive Center at Windsor
    The design for this project is complete and it is anticipated that earth work will begin in March of 2009.  Actual building construction will occur shortly there after with an anticipated completion date of January 1, 2009.

  • Berthoud Campus Master Plan
    The finishing touches are occurring to the plan.  A presentation of the Master Plan will occur at the January 7th at the regular Board of Trustees meeting.
