GREELEY, CO – August 29, 2017– Aims Community College will host the “Great Aardvark Embark” hot air balloon launch on the morning of September 9 from 6:30 to 8 a.m. The Colorado Balloon Club will launch between four and 12 balloons (dependent on weather) from the field north of the Cornerstone building on Aims’ Greeley campus. Students and the public are invited to learn how hot air balloons work and all the behind the scenes action associated with launching one.
“The Great Aardvark Embark is in conjuncture with Aims’ year-long 50th anniversary celebration and is a unique way to spend the morning with the community,” said Aims President, Dr. Leah L. Bornstein. “I’d also like to thank the Colorado Balloon Club for sharing their expertise with the community, and I’d like to invite the community to join us and witness the majestic balloons take off from our beautiful campus.”
Pilots will arrive at 6:30 a.m. and everyone is invited to see how they assess weather, decide on a launch location and then watch the inflation. Pilots will also be able to answer questions during this time. After the balloons are fully inflated (generally about 30-45 minutes), the pilots will embark on their voyage for the day. The first 200 guests will be treated to a free breakfast burrito with additional burritos available for purchase. Coffee will also be available free of charge.
