A Soldier’s Healing Field comes to AimsSubmitted on: 09-06-2006
A field of American flags will be raised at Aims Community College from Sept. 6 -12, to honor the lives of the soldiers who have died in combat since 9/11. A Soldier’s Healing Field is sponsored by The Exchange Club of Greeley. The event begins on Wednesday, Sept. 6, when volunteers will raise flags as the soldier’s names are read. The field will be open each evening until 10 p.m. Local school programs will be held on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 7-8. On Sunday, Sept. 10, an Armed Forces Memorial will be held at 1 p.m. to honor present and past soldiers and veterans. On Patriots Day, Monday, Sept. 11, a short program commemorating and honoring the victims of 9/11 will begin at 6:46 a.m. with a fly-over of U.S. Air Force jets. Community members are encouraged to sponsor a soldier’s flag to keep for a $20 donation. Each 3-foot by 5-foot flag will include a soldier’s name, as well as an 8-foot pole.
