Donations to Aims Community College now eligible for tax rebateSubmitted on: 06-23-2009
Aims Community College has received the Enterprise Zone designation for donations made to the college's capital construction projects. This provides donors with an additional 25 percent tax credit in addition to the standard tax deduction on gifts made to the college's construction projects. The Greeley/Weld Enterprise Zone, as administered by Upstate Colorado Economic Development, provides an opportunity for taxpayers to assist local non-profit partners located in the Enterprise Zone. In order to qualify for the designation, community development projects must contribute to job creation and job preservation. "Aims Community College is an incredibly important partner in the economic development of the region," said Cathy Schulte, senior vice president for Upstate Colorado. "Our efforts focus on attracting primary sector employers to the region, and Aims plays a critical role in assuring that our labor force is highly trained, skilled and educated." Donations to the brick and mortar projects at Aims qualify for the Enterprise Zone project, and include naming rights to buildings and individual classroom and laboratory space. "The principal goal of the capital improvement campaign is not simply to construct new classroom space, but rather to create cutting-edge learning environments that provide students with the skills and knowledge our area businesses require," said Aims Foundation Director Julie Buderus. "Employers get the right employee for the job and students are entering the workforce with secure jobs and substantial salaries." Questions concerning contributions to Aims that qualify for a tax credit should be directed to Julie Buderus, Executive Director Aims Foundation (970) 339-6583.
