With funding from the Wagner-Peyser C.N.A. Program Expansion grant, and in cooperation with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and Weld County Workforce Development, Aims Community College has expanded its Nurse Aide program to the Fort Lupton campus. This collaborative effort provides the Fort Lupton campus with an opportunity to address the dire shortage of healthcare professionals in Weld County and across the nation. In addition to the new Certified Nurse Aid program, Aimsí Fort Lupton campus also launched its Alcanzar program this semester, further expanding opportunities for local residents to enter the healthcare profession. The Certified Nurse Aide program focuses on adult, disabled and residential care and runs five weeks. During the course, students will participate in classroom activities, skills practice, and simulations in providing care to patients. Also, the student will gain 30 hours of clinical experience, giving care to actual patients in a long-term care facility or hospital. Upon completion of the course, graduates are able to take the State of Coloradoís Nurse Aide Certification exam. Graduates may apply to other nursing programs including Aimsí Extended Practical Nurse program, and its newly approved Associate Degree in Nursing program. Other career options available through Aims include Medical Clinical Assisting, Surgical Technology and Radiological Technology. The first five-week session of C.N.A. classes at Fort Lupton starts Feb. 7. Aimsí Alcanzar med prep program serves non-traditional students in south Weld and north Adams counties, who are interested in preparing themselves for a career in healthcare. The program runs nine months and provides students with opportunities to become a C.N.A., while providing students with college credits that can be used toward other healthcare educational programs. Students are introduced to a wide variety of medical fields such as Dental Assistant, Surgical Technology, Radiological Technology, Laboratory Assistant, Medical Records Administration, Home Health Care, Physical Therapy and Veterinarian Technology. The next Alcanzar session begins in August and interested students can call the Fort Lupton campus today, to be placed on a waiting list.
