Aims Community College guarantees tuition rates for incoming students

Submitted on: 08-11-2011

A recent decision by the Aims Community College Board of Trustees ensures that Aims students who graduate in two years won't be affected by any tuition increase that may occur during their enrollment. The Guaranteed Tuition Rebate program provides new students who start this fall (or high school students who had taken some Aims classes before but are new full-time students at Aims), with a guaranteed tuition rate that is locked in as long as they graduate within two years (six consecutive semesters including fall, spring and summer). "Aims tuition has increased at a small fraction of other colleges, but every increase impacts students," said Board Member Mike Geile. "We wanted to take the financial guesswork out of planning for college." Currently, in-district students pay $67.36 per credit with some technology intensive programs incurring a higher, differential per-credit rate). While enrolled, students will pay for any tuition increases that occur, but if they meet all the requirements, they can apply for a rebate of the increased tuition rate upon graduation. "Aims has always worked hard to keep tuition as low as possible," said Aims Chief Financial Officer Michael Kelly. "With this pilot program, we are showing students we understand the struggles of financial planning and we want to make it easy for them to make their college dream a reality."
