Calling all Muggles: Explore classic literary themes through the eyes of Harry Potter in a new class offered this fall

Submitted on: 08-16-2011

Aims is offering a new course designed just for Muggles. That's right, LIT 175-Special Topics will celebrate all things Harry Potter, using the beloved series by J.K. Rowling to explore motifs, mythology, media and more. "Students will learn about British literature and the various literary conventions from which Rowling drew," said Instructor Kendra Griffin. "We'll examine why Rowling was so successful, why the series is compelling and why it touched so many people. Students will be able to leave the class being able to justify why the series really is literature." Harry Potter: Hogwarts' Heroes meets once a week from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on the Greeley campus and includes online components. It is a 3-credit class that is transferable as an elective. Fall semester begins Aug. 22. Students can register and view the class schedule online at www.aims.edu/schedule.
