On Thursday, September 8, from 4 to 6 pm, the Communication Media department at Aims Community College will host an open house. Visitors can tour the facility, try the equipment and meet the faculty. "Our program really emphasizes allowing students to actually use the equipment," said Department Chair Jim Crandall. "Some programs spend the first year just telling you how to use certain technologies. At Aims, from day one, our students are hands-on." Communication media students can choose from a broad range of courses in: Broadcast Management, Digital Effects, Audio Production, Sound Design, 3D Modeling & Animation, Production Management, Digital Photography, TV Production, Scriptwriting, Sound for Film/Video, Photojournalism, Journalism, Live Sound, Pro Tools, Editing, Radio and MIDI. The Communication Media department is housed in Ed Beaty Hall on the Greeley campus, which was completely remodeled in 2008. "When some of our alums come back to visit, they are blown away by the quality and quantity of our technology," Crandall said. "A lot of them tell me that Aims has better equipment than what they're using at their jobs." This event also coincides with the encore reception of "energia figura," a photographic exhibition of the latest work from Loveland-based artist G. Mark Lewis (gmark). "'energia figura' involves creating images that represent the human form with light and movement that the eye can't see without the aid of the camera," gmark said. "There's a certain amount of euphoria in finding the art in the human form and making it possible for others to see it, in a completely new way." The Aims Greeley campus is located at 5401 W. 20th St.
