Huge Turn Out for Aims Community College Day Free Classes for Community April 11, 2014

On April 11, 2014 Aims Community College held Community College Day and offered over 190, ninety minute long free sampler classes to the community at all 4 Aims' locations. Aims celebrated National Community College Month with this special free event designed to give back to the community that supports them.

Over 300 volunteers worked tirelessly to make the day a success for the over 1,200 community members that showed up to participate on the 11th College in Greeley, Ft. Lupton, Windsor and Loveland. Community members took classes that ranged in subject from 'Growth Mindset' to ‘The Life of an Oil Well’ to ‘How to Buy a Car’ to '3D Printing' to 'Weight Training' to 'Beginning Excel' to 'Welding' to 'Firefighters 101' and so many more exciting topics.

Participants reported having great experiences, like falling in love with flying after a successful landing of the Beech 1900 flight simulator or a desire to write a personal narrative after taking "Scripting Your Future." Some members of the community came for the entire afternoon beginning at 1pm and ending at 8:30pm in order to take advantage of as many classes as possible. Some had themes in mind like personal growth and some were learning new skills or just having fun. Many participants plan to continue taking classes at Aims and others were excited just to gain a new skill and have a fun, unique Friday.

All in all, Aims was an exciting place to be on Friday and celebrated College in Colorado Day with flair! With the rising costs of college and the expense of private classes and in many of the subjects offered on Friday, it was a great experience for all involved to work with experts to explore and learn something new with no expense. Dr. Liddell declared it a great success and thanked all the volunteers and participants who made this once every 3-year event one to be remembered!
