Celebrating Our Veterans
Recently, we had the unique opportunity to sit down with one of our amazing Veteran students and get to know her a little bit better. Kristi Green is a Navy Veteran who is a bright, dynamic, and engaging person to talk to and we were honored that she spent some time sharing her story with us and answering a few questions about why she came to Aims to study web design. If you see her or another Veteran today or anytime this week, be sure to thank him or her for her service!
Kristi moved back to Colorado from California in January 2013, after having been gone from Colorado more than 20 years, living on the East Coast and in Hawaii and traveling to Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Canada. She learned a great deal in the Navy and really enjoyed meeting the locals and experiencing the different cultures. She said she loved trying new cuisines, art, live theatre and music. Now, she has a 12-year-old daughter who she enjoys spending quality time with. The following are a few questions she was gracious enough to answer for us.
CCR: What interested you about Aims?
KG: What interested me about Aims was that Aims had the Web Design Certificate Program That I could complete within 1 year as well as the Associates Degree program in Web Design that I could complete within 2 years if I decided to pursue that route.
CCR: As a Veteran, what do you believe that you uniquely contribute to the Aims community?
KG: I would have to say I embody the values instilled in me while I was in the Navy: Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
CCR: What are you most proud of?
KG: I am most proud of my 12-year-old daughter and her inquisitiveness about the world we live in. I am also very proud that I decided to pursue a new career and found this program at Aims that will help me achieve my new career goals.
CCR: What at can Aims students do to honor Veterans today?
KG: Aims students can honor Veterans Day by being kind, giving a hand to someone less fortunate, as well as just doing their part to make the world and the environment in which we all live in, a better place.
CCR: What do you aspire to in your journey here at Aims and what has it been like thus far?
KG: My aspirations are to complete the certificate program and find an amazing work opportunity in my new career field. So far at Aims, I have really enjoyed the technical classes I have taken. My instructors are very knowledgeable and I am confident that what they are teaching me is what is being practiced out in the field.
