About Geography
Some people may think Geography is only about memorizing places – memorizing states and capitals, rivers, mountains or countries. Geography involves places but is not just about memorizing them, especially in today’s global society.
Geography looks at the relationship between people and their physical environment (relationship of people in terms of planet earth) and helps explain human behavior, especially in relation to any movement on the surface of the earth.
Careers
Although there are many diversified career fields/opportunities, most geographers work in the four basic career fields of:
- business
- government
- planning
- teaching
Careers that combine Geography and technology such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) are especially in demand.
Geographers are highly skilled and experienced professionals whose role is the study of places-their physical and cultural characteristics, their relationships to other places, and how they change through time.
