History is just one big story… how can you not love it? There is so much beyond the stereotype of the “boring†history class! I have always had an appreciation for history and have always loved talking and learning about it. Coming from a family of teachers, I was inspired by my father to love the past and inspired by my mother to teach it. Spending time at Fort Lewis College in Durango, I found my place in life by studying history and being stimulated by my history teachers. It was fantastic that someone could become so passionate about one subject! I wanted to do it too! After admitting that I had become a full-fledged History Nerd, I attended the University of Colorado for my graduate degree. It is there that I knew I had to attempt to connect people to the marvelous worlds and societies that have paved the way for our own, and in the classroom was the only place I could do this. I spend every day telling stories and challenging students to love the past; it’s a great way to live! Favorite Historical Quote: “If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it.†Herodotus, Father of History- Sample Syllabi: |

I earned my BA in History from Colorado State University, and my MA in History from the University of South Dakota. My area of specialization includes Medieval England, and British Empire. From 2007-2008, I served as a graduate assistant for the Department of History at the University of South Dakota, during which I composed and conducted lectures for Western Civilizations I and II. Since the fall of 2008, I have taught U.S. History and Western Civilizations at Aims Community College. Although I am originally from Iowa, Colorado has served me as a second home for more than a decade. I am a wilderness enthusiast, an avid sportsman, I play a mean piano, and I have backpacked through Europe, North Africa, New Zealand, British Columbia, and Alaska. Favorite Historical Quote: "For me there is no greater subject than history. How a man can study it and not be forced to become a philosopher, I cannot tell." -George E. Wilson Sample Syllabi: |
