HIS201 US History:
Colonial to Civil War
This course is for people who want to study American history and America’s role in the world from the Colonial Era (1500s-1600s) to the American Civil War, 1861-1865. Some of the larger in depth themes this course will cover are Native American history, life and culture, African American history and culture and the development of slavery in America, warfare such as the American Revolution, Indian Wars, Mexican-American, and Civil War.
Others themes of this course include women’s rights and history, the founding of the American Republic, the writing of the American Constitution, and so on. Students who take this course will read and analyze a plethora of historical data including both primary and secondary written and visual sources, but the ultimate goal of the course is to better understand America’s early history. In addition, there is a heavy research and writing component for this course.
This course is a Guaranteed Transfer Course and will count as the history requirement for the AA degree.
