HIS225 Colorado History

This course is for people who want to study the human history of Colorado from the Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloans) to modern culture wars in Colorado today.  Some of the larger in depth themes this course will cover are Native Coloradoan culture and history, Colorado as Spain, France, Mexico, and America, the environment and environmentalism, warfare such as the Indian Wars in Colorado, industrialization, urbanization, and modernization; women’s roles and history, statehood, water law, water rights, and water use, development vs. preservation, extraction vs. protection, Colorado and the Old West, and many others. 

Students who take this course will read and analyze a plethora of historical data including both primary and secondary written and visual sources, but the ultimate goal of the course is to better understand Colorado as it is today, and, the role Colorado plays in the world and America in the present day.  In addition, there is a heavy research and writing component for this course.
