HIS102 Western Civilization:
Civilization: 1650 - Present

This course is for people who want to study developments in the western world during the modern era.  Major themes include the Age of Exploration and Science, The Enlightenment, including the American and French Revolutions, The Industrial Revolution, the age of "isms" like nationalism, feminism, communism, and zionism, reform and the Progressive era, the taking of colonies and the two world wars.  The course concludes with a study of the late twentieth century, the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall. 

Students who take this course will read and analyze a plethora of historical data including both primary and secondary written and visual sources, but the ultimate goal of the course is to better understand modern European history.  In addition, there is a heavy research and writing component for this course 

This course is a Guaranteed Transfer Course and will count as the history requirement for the AA degree
