Sonya M. PauKune began her journey with Fine Art at Colorado Mountain College in 1985 with a handbuilding clay class. She attended the University of Northern Colorado from 1989-1994 and received a B.A. in Fine Art with an emphasis in Ceramics and Printmaking/Book Arts. After undergraduate school, Sonya was lucky enough to receive a Graduate Research Assistantship in Art History as well as a Graduate Teaching Assistant Position at Kansas State University where she received a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics.

From 1998 until 2007, Sonya was an adjunct faculty member in Ceramics and Art Appreciation at Front Range Community College. In 2006, she decided to try primary art education and received her K-12 professional Art Education license. Sonya taught Drawing, Painting and Printmaking for one year at University High School in Greeley before she joined Aims in 2008.

Sonya is also the Director and Curator of the Ed Beaty Hall Fine Art Gallery on the Greeley campus. She also sits on several boards and committees in the community and for the college, including the Greeley Arts Commission and as the faculty advisor for Aims Art in Action student club.

Sonya’s husband, Chris Wanner, teaches a Drawing for the Graphic Novel course at Aims, and is an Artists and Educator teaching Ceramics and the Art of Comics at University High Schools in Greeley. They are also the owners of PauKune Wanner Art Haus: gallery, residency, and artist studio in Severance, Colorado. The couple wanted to help emerging artists by giving them a venue to have exhibitions, work in a ceramic studio and offer a variety of art workshops and lectures. Sonya and Chris are the proud parents of two very active teenage boys that keep them running whenever they’re not teaching about art or making it.

Sonya teaches mainly ceramic and art appreciation classes.
