Information technologyCurrently ranked as the second fastest-growing occupation in the country, systems analysts, database communication experts and information technology analysts can expect to be highly in demand for at least the next decade. "Technology is growing and changing every day and it's requiring more specialized training for people to jump into it," says William Dubie, an adjunct professor for the University of Massachusetts Lowell's online information technology certificate program, an 18-credit-hour program of study that focuses on introducing students to basic computer programming, database concepts and operating systems. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the IT field is expected to grow by more than 50 percent between now and 2014 with positions opening up across both public and private sectors. |
