Library Policies

Library Users

Anyone from the Aims Community College service area may use Kiefer Library:

  • Students, faculty, staff, administrators of Aims Community College
  • All citizens of the service area
  • A parent or responsible adult must accompany children under 16 unless the children are full-time Aims students

Library Cards

Every person will need a library card to checkout library materials.

Aims identification cards serve as the Kiefer Library Card for students, faculty, administration and staff. Picture I.D. can be used if the student is correctly identified in the library database.

Community members, with proper picture identification, can apply for an Aims Community College Kiefer Library card.

Reserve materials must be checked out with an Aims or picture I.D. even if the material is only to be used in the library or in the ARC.

10 items is the standard limit.

Renewing Library Materials

You may bring your items into the library, you may call the Library, 970-339-6227 or 800-301-5388 ext. 6227, or you may renew through the online library catalog under Patron Review. http://tlc.aims.edu/TLCScripts/interpac.dll?PatronForm&Config=pac&Branch=,0,&FormId=-3

Returning Library Materials

Greeley Campus

The library maintains two safe return locations on the Greeley campus. Materials may be returned at the book drop on the first floor of the College Center, just inside the east doors.
Items may also be returned through the Book Return opening at the Circulation Desk.
Do not attempt to return books at any other location on the Greeley campus since they will not be protected from other patrons taking them out still under your name. As long as items are under your name, you are fully responsible for them except when materials are returned to secure return locations.

Fort Lupton and Loveland Campuses

Loveland, Fort Lupton and Greeley Downtown campus students may return their library items by presenting them for check in to the Academic Resource Center's personnel.

Interlibrary Loan Materials

Materials that we borrowed for you from other libraries (interlibrary loans) must be returned to the Kiefer Library or through your campus Academic Resource Center. Once you return an interlibrary loan, we take the charge off your account, and the Kiefer Library assumes complete responsibility for the safe return of the materials to the owning library. If you attempt to return interlibrary loan materials in any other way, you are fully responsible for replacing the items should they get lost in transit or until both libraries have agreed the materials are returned.

Overdue and Lost Library Materials

Once materials are overdue, a system block is automatically charged against your library account. You cannot check out other materials as long as a block remains against your account. At present, you will receive only one (final) notice of overdue materials.

Students

If you are a student, the final notice will inform you that a financial hold has been placed against your account. You may not borrow items from the Library, nor may you register for classes or receive your grades or transcripts until the materials have been returned or paid for.

Community Patrons

If you are a community patron, after the final notice a block is placed on your library account. You will no longer be able to borrow library materials until the overdue materials are either returned or paid for. In addition your overdue library account may be sent to a collection agency.

Late Fees

Late fees and replacement costs are assessed for items from the Reserve Collection. Course textbooks are checked out for free for 2 hours. If overdue, there is an overdue fine of $.50 per hour; $12.00 per day. If kept more than 3 days, the full price of the book plus a processing fee is charged.

Kiefer Library does not assess overdue fines on circulating items.

Replacement Costs and Processing Fees

If you cannot locate the library materials charged to your library card, you should plan to replace them. Damaged materials, too, must be replaced. Before paying replacement costs and fees, please consult us, as the standard replacement cost and the actual replacement cost may differ.

We will provide you the actual dollar amount which will satisfy your obligation and which you will pay at the Aims Cashier's office. Once we have proof that you have done this, we will release your transcript hold if you are a student, and we will remove the block from your borrowing account.

Paying for Lost Materials

Payment is accepted at any of the Cashier's offices on any of the campuses.  Be sure to keep your receipt. Refunds will not be issued for any Reserve Collection items.
Important!

Please Note:
Once you have paid for an item, it is yours to keep if the Library has replaced the item either with an identical replacement or a subject replacement.
Any qualifying refunds are issued by the College and can take up to four weeks for you to receive.
