Library Policies

Library Users

Anyone from the Aims Community College service area may use Kiefer Library:

Library Cards

Every person will need a library card to check out library materials.

Aims I.D. Cards serve as the Kiefer Library Card for students, faculty, administration and staff. Picture I.D. can also be used.

Community members with proper picture identification can apply for a Kiefer Library card.

Reserve materials must be checked out with an Aims or picture I.D. even if the material is only to be used in the Learning Commons. Laptops and electronic devices are only checked out, with appropriate picture I.D., to current students and employees.

Renewing Library Materials

You may bring your items into the library, call the library, (970) 339-6458, or renew through the Kiefer Library Catalog.

Circulation and Fine Policies of Kiefer Library, Aims Community College

It is the philosophy of Kiefer Library to make library resources available to as many students and Aims employees as possible. Kiefer Library has a policy to suspend borrowing privileges and impose fines on overdue library material. This policy is intended to encourage library customers to return library materials by the date due, thereby maximizing the availability of resources to our library users.

Email notifications are sent informing library customers of overdue materials. If items are not returned, final billing notices are mailed to library customers at the address on file with Aims Community College.

If fines on your library account are $5 or more, you cannot check out any library materials. Full or partial payment must be made. Your library account must be below $5 to check out library materials.

If fines on your library account are $12 or more, a financial hold is placed on your campus-wide student account. No academic transcripts will be released to the student, nor will the student be permitted to register for future classes until all financial obligations to the college have been met.

If the material is not returned, an additional $20 processing fee is charged.
Excessively late fines will be turned over to a collection agency.

Any of the following infractions will result in the temporary or permanent suspension of borrowing and renewing privileges:

Returning Library Materials

Greeley Campus

The library maintains two safe return locations on the Greeley Campus. Materials may be returned at the book drop on the secon floor of the College Center, just outside the Learning Commons door. Items may also be returned through the book return opening at the Information/Check-Out Desk.

Please do not attempt to return items at any other location on the Greeley Campus because they will not be protected from other patrons taking them out under your name.

As long as items are under your name, you are fully responsible for them except when materials are returned to secure return locations.

Fort Lupton, Loveland and Windsor Locations

Fort Lupton, Loveland and Windsor students may return their library items to the Learning Commons staff at their campus.

Interlibrary Loan Materials

Materials that we borrowed for you from other libraries (interlibrary loans) must be returned to the Kiefer Library or through your Learning Commons site. Once you return an interlibrary loan to staff, Kiefer Library assumes complete responsibility for the safe return of the materials to the owning library. If you attempt to return interlibrary loan materials in any other way, you are fully responsible for replacing the items should they get lost in transit or until both libraries have agreed the materials are returned.

Paying for Lost Materials

Payment is accepted at the cashier's offices on any of the campuses. Payment is also accepted at Kiefer Library, Learning Commons and College Center, second floor, Greeley Campus. Be sure to keep your receipt. Once you have paid for an item, it is yours to keep. No refunds will be issued.
