Accessing and Using WebCT Mail


Step One: To access email, click on the Mail link in the Course Menu or click on the Communication Tools icon.

Note: If the Course Menu is not displayed in a column on the left hand side of your screen, click the green triangle to display it or use the drop-down menu to locate the Mail link.


Step Two: If you have new email, a message will appear under the Compose Message button. Click on the Inbox link.

Note: If you clicked on the Communication Tools icon on the homepage, you will see an email icon on the Communication Tools page.. If the letter e is red, you have new email. If the letter e is white, you have read all of the email in your Inbox. Click on the email icon to access the email page above, then click on the Inbox link.

 


Step Three: On the Inbox page, you will see the subject line of the new email message in blue. You will also see the author of the message and the date and time stamp indicating when the message was sent. Click on the blue subject line to access the message.

Note: The envelope icon to the left of the subject line is closed, indicating that this message is unread.


Step Four: Read your message. To reply to the email message, click the Reply button.

A new browser window will open displaying the Compose Mail Message box. Type in your message and click Send.

Composing a New Message: To compose a new message, return to the Mail page and click the Compose message button.


 

This opens the Compose Mail Message window. Click on the Browse button.

This opens the Select Recipients window. Click on the name of the person to whom you are sending your email message. It will be highlighted in blue when you click on it. Then click the Select button.

Note: To select all the names in the list, hold down the shift key when you are clicking on names. To select some names, but not all, hold down the control key and click on the name of each recipient.

Now the Compose Message window opens with the username of the person you selected in the Send to: text box.. Type in a subject in the Subject: text box and your message in the Message: text box. . Click the Send button to send your email to your classmate's email Inbox in your WebCT course.

Note: You cannot type an external email address in the Send to: text box. WebCT Mail is reserved only for the persons enrolled in the course and your instructor. It provides a convenient place for your course email and also protects your privacy and that of your classmates.
