Study Skills - Time Management Skills
Think about it! You are a student; that is a full time job in itself.
You may also have other roles such as employee or parent. Any one
of these roles, not to mention all of them together, place huge demands
on your time. Why not learn to manage your time so that you can get
it all done? You can even find some time for yourself. Come see us
at the Learning Lab, we have lots of study skill materials that you
will find useful. Meanwhile, here are some tips that may help you
right away.
Time Management:
- Make a schedule of your week. Include time for yourself such
as exercising as well as classes, family, and work. (Get free Weekly
Schedules at the Learning Lab)
- Study two hours for each hour you are in class.
- Study during the day and reserve your nights and weekend for
yourself. Of course, you may need to use some weekend time once
in a while to prepare large projects.
- Use small pieces of time, like the half hour before your ride
comes or the ten minutes before class, for preparation, review,
or planning.
- Wake up and exercise at regularly scheduled times.
- Avoid studying until very late at night. It could result in missing
a class which will cost you more time later. Instead, go to sleep
on time and get up early to study.
- Plan the semester on a monthly calendar. Download free calendars
from www.calendarhome.com.
- Break projects and exams into small tasks. Write them in to your
monthly calendar one to two weeks ahead of their due date.
- Read your text before you attend class.
- Concentrate on one task at a time.
