The HOBET

About the HOBET:

The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) is a diagnostic test that we administer to individuals who are interested in our paramedic program. The purpose of the HOBET is to help assist the paramedic program in evaluating your academic, test taking and social skills.

The HOBET is a computerized test and takes approximately 2 ½ hours to complete. Please note that this is a timed test. You are allowed a certain amount of minutes per subtest. If you exceed the time limit, the computer will immediately advance you to the next section.

The HOBET contains 7 subtests, including the following:

• Comprehensive Math (60 questions, 60 minutes permitted)
  
  
• Reading Rate – speed in reading college level material (Fixed amount of text, 1 minute)
  
  
• Reading Comprehension – science reading ability (33 questions, 30 minutes)
  
  
• Social Decision (17 questions, 10 minutes)
  
  
• Stressful Situations (49 questions, 15 minutes)
  
  
• Learning Styles (44 questions, 15 minutes)
  
  
• Test Taking Skills (30 questions, 20 minutes)

Preparation for the HOBET Exam:

Preparation for the HOBET exam is crucial if you wish to receive passing scores. There are a number of ways you can prepare for the HOBET:

• You can purchase the official HOBET study guide from the Aims Community College bookstore.
  
  
• You can also purchase the HOBET study guide online at www.eriworld.com.
  
  
• We also have two copies of the HOBET study guide that you can peruse in the Testing Center.
  
  
• Many practice tests and study helps can be found online for the HOBET. Go to Google or Yahoo and type in HOBET practice.
