Student Responsibilities
Student Rights and Responsibilities regarding Disability Accommodations
Each student with a disability at Aims has a right to have:
- To an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from
courses, programs, services or activities.
- To an equal opportunity to work and to learn, to receive reasonable
accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids and
services.
- To the assurance that all disability-related records will be
confidential and maintained separately from college/university
records in accordance with applicable law.
- An accommodation in a timely manner once it has been properly
requested.
Each student with a disability at Aims is responsible for:
- His/her own enrollment
- Identifying himself/herself as an individual with a disability
- Providing appropriate up-to-date documentation
- To initiate all requests for accommodations and services in
a timely manner
- Providing his/her faculty members a copy of the memo from DAC
validating his/her requested accommodations
- To meet qualifications and maintain essential institutional
standards for courses, programs, services or activities.
If a student has questions or problems concerning the appropriateness
of an accommodation, he or she must contact DAC. If no resolution
occurs at this stage, the student should consult the current Aims
Community College Student Handbook, Student Mediation, Assistance,
and Advocacy Program or the Student Grievance Procedure
