Why Writing is Important
The typical college student will be required to write a variety of essays throughout his/her collegiate career. These essay assignments will cover a variety of goals and purposes. Most of the time, a student will be required to work on an essay assignment as homework. Some of these assignments can be written using only personal experiences or previously gained knowledge, while other essays will require additional research and the use of outside sources. Sometimes, a student will be asked to write an essay in class with a limited amount of time. Regardless of the actual assignment and the format used, understanding what makes for good writing and the proper techniques to use can lead to creating a well-crafted essay in a shorter amount of time.
Not only is writing an important academic skill, but it is also an important skill that translates into any career field. Nearly all professions require some form of writing on the job. For example, doctors and nurses write medical reports on patients; accountants and business managers create financial reports; engineers and software technicians write instruction sheets and user manuals; nearly every worker in all business fields composes emails and other forms of written communication for customers, clients, and co-workers. Ultimately, the number of job tasks that require writing is countless. Since writing is used in all fields and jobs, it is a skill that all students and workers should learn and become better at.
