Faculty Resources
Studies show that faculty participation in college retention efforts
can have the greatest affect toward the persistence and retention
of student’s in college. You are the first line of defense
when it comes to retention efforts. Timely reporting of students
at risk is extremely critical in our ability to be responsive to
the student and to you as the faculty member. There are many ways
you as a faculty member can be involved in the college’s
retention efforts.
AIR – Academic Improvement Report
The AIR report is initiated by you through a link on web services.
The AIR report is then forwarded to the Retention Coordinator
for follow up and intervention by one of the college’s
Retention Advisors. Our goal is to get the student back on track
through an advising session, assistance with study skills, referral
to tutoring, and follow-up to make sure the plan is completed.
Stop-Out Report
The Retention Coordinator receives a weekly stop out report from
the records office. All students are contacted by phone or email.
The goal is to get them to discuss options with instructors and
see if it is possible for them to get caught up or if they need
to withdraw from the class. Withdrawing from the class can have
some financial aid implications. Students are also counseled
as to the effects of withdrawing or failing the class.
Academic Probation
Students with less than a 2.0 CGPA are placed on academic probation
and are assigned to a retention advisor through the Student Success
Center for more intensive follow up and advising. With the assistance
of a retention advisor, students complete an Academic Success
Plan to identify past areas of concern and develop a plan of
action for success. Students on academic probation are placed
on hold and cannot use web services for registration purposes.
Crisis Response
Our crisis response team is available to handle special student
circumstances. Please contact the Student Success Center at any
campus and ask for an available Crisis Responder for assistance.

- Missing classes
- Not turning in assignments
- Doing poorly on tests
- Not participating in class
Students who don’t seem to be academically prepared for
college:

How you can help students in your classroom
- Imbed “study skills” into your class discussions,
especially early in the semester. Show students how to read a
textbook, how to take notes for your lecture style, how to study
for your tests.
- Include information in your course syllabus such as weekly
outlines and campus resources. Also include information on how
to be successful in your class, what are you looking for.
