Emerging Scholars Program
The Emerging Scholars program provides academic support to new
students with College Prep needs. The goals of the program are
to help you adjust to college, provide support necessary for successful
completion of college-level courses and encourage students to persist
to graduation and be successful.
If eligible, you will receive:
- Intensive academic advising
- Career and major exploration
- College transfer preparation
- Development of student success skills
- Extended orientation workshops
- Access to institutional grant funds (for remedial course
work)
- Advisor tutoring referral
Participation in the Emerging Scholars program is entirely voluntary
and it requires an application process. There are a limited number
of slots available to eligible students each semester on all campuses.
When selected into the emerging scholars program each scholar
is rewarded grant money when the following is completed:
- Participate in an Emerging Scholars orientation prior
to the start of classes.
- Meet 3 times each semester with the assigned advisor.
- Allow the institution to place a registration hold on
his/her account requiring advisor approval for any changes (add/drop/withdrawal).
- Attend a minimum of 2 student success workshops during
each semester (to be determined in conjunction with the student’s
advisor).
- Enroll in and complete college prep courses with a “C” or
better.
- Enroll in and attend AAA101 - College 101: The Student Experience,
duringyour first semester.
By applying for this program, you become eligible for an institution
grant based on the number of college prep credits being taken and
successfully completed during a semester. The award amount will
be calculated at $40 per credit hour of college prep coursework
per semester as indicated on the application.
