Emerging Scholars Program

The Emerging Scholars program provides academic support to new students with College Prep needs. The goals of the program are to help students adjust to college, provide support necessary for successful completion of college-level courses and encourage students to persist to graduation and be successful.

If eligible, you will receive:

  • Intensive academic advising
  • Career and major exploration
  • College transfer preparation
  • Development of student success skills
  • Extended orientation workshops
  • Access to institutional scholarship funds (for remedial course work)
  • Advisor tutoring referral

Students who are new to Aims with 3 areas of college prep needs in reading, math and English are enrolled in the Emerging Scholars program as part of their first year experience. Students who are new to Aims with 2 areas of college prep needs in reading, math or English are eligible to participate in the Emerging Scholars program.  This program is designed to assist students with the transition to college and prepare you for college level coursework.  In addition, by participating in the Emerging Scholars program, students are eligible to apply for a scholarship at the end of each semester while enrolled in college prep classes.

Up to 250 scholarships of $300 will be awarded at the end of each fall and spring semester. Students need to complete an application for the scholarship each semester.  The scholarship application will include the following requirements:

  1. Complete all attempted college prep courses with a “C” or better each semester.

  2. Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 in all undergraduate classes (if applicable).

  3. Complete a minimum of 6 or more credits with a “C” or better to be eligible for the scholarship (combined BE and UG coursework).

  4. Meet a minimum of 3 times each semester with assigned advisor.

  5. Complete AAA 101 or AAA 109 class with a grade of “C” or better (1st semester).

  6. Complete at least 2 iFocus workshops or the 7 Habits workshop (2nd semester and beyond).

By maintaining the minimum standards described above you will be eligible to apply for an emerging scholars scholarship.
