Alma Aquino Aguilar

Alma is an academic advisor and transfer coordinator for the Student Support Services programs. She was born in California, lived in North Carolina and two years outside of the USA. Her home is now Colorado, a place with such nature! She graduated from UNC in Fall of 2011 with a Spanish BA of Liberal Arts, and with a double minor: Anthropology of Multicultural & Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). She enjoys learning about cultures, loves to spend time with her family, and she is an advocate for knowledge.

Somewhere you would like to travel: I wish someday to visit Spain

Alfredo Haro

Alfredo is an academic advisor and financial aid coordinator for Student Support Services and CORE. Alfredo is a former Aims TRiO student and graduated with his B.S. from the University of Northern Colorado in 2013. A Weld county native, he enjoys volunteering and mentoring local youth.

Mary Ann is the Assistant Director for the Student Support Services & CORE programs. Mary Ann grew up in New Mexico and received her Masterís degree at the University of Northern Colorado.

Something people would be surprised to know? I have lived overseas in Puerto Rico and Singapore.

My pets: I have a lab mix named Lucky and a Chihuahua named Peanut.

Julie is the Director for both TRIO Student Support Services programs. She graduated with her BA from the University of New Mexico in 2010 and her MA in Psychology from the University of the Rockies in 2014. Julie is new to Colorado, and being an outdoor enthusiast, is looking forward to enjoying the wonderful outdoor recreation opportunities Colorado has to offer.

Hobbies: Sewing, art, reading, video games, and outdoor sports and recreation.

Something people would be surprised to know about me: I have two beautiful granddaughters that I adore to the moon and back!

Erin is a Staff Associate for TRiO & CORE Impact Programs. Born and raised in Colorado, Erin earned her Associate of Arts degree from Aims CC and went on to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in sociology at the University of Northern Colorado. She enjoys rock music, animals, reading zombie books, and exploring the outdoors. Erin loves to empower students by providing motivation and encouragement throughout their academic journey.

Favorite colors: Yellow and Green

Fun Fact: My friend and I got lost while staking claims in the deserts of Nevada when we were teenagers!! To this day, weíre still not sure how we ever found the carÖ

Jayleen Gilkey

Jayleen tutors writing, reading, and study skills. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her educational background includes two years at the University of Cincinnati, an AA and AAS from Aims Community College, and continued coursework in journalism, special education, and human rehabilitation services at the University of Northern Colorado. She has been a tutor with Aims since 1986. In her free time, she enjoys reading, doing volunteer work, and spending time with family and friends.

Ali Kakakhel

Ali Kakakhel tutors math, physics, and chemistry. He was born and raised in Northern Colorado. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Physics from Colorado State University and his Master's degree in Radiological Physics. He has been tutoring in math and the sciences since January 2005. Ali enjoys learning new topics, tips, and tricks in math, physics, and computing.

Favorite Food: Rice with Spinach Curry and Chicken

Something we would be surprised to know: Ali volunteers with Muslims Against Hunger -- cooking, serving, cleaning up at community kitchens.

Nike Rovero

Nike tutors math and science. She has a Bachelorís of Science degree in civil engineering from the Colorado School of Mines with a mineral emphasis in geology, and a Masterís of Science in Business Administration from Boston University. She has taught several math classes at Aims.

Favorite Book: I have an insatiable appetite for the written word and will read just about anything. I have been known to read the back of a cereal box when desperate.

Something people would be surprised to know: I have lived overseas for more than 9 years, primarily around the Mediterranean basin.

Amber Vanfosson
Math Tutor

Amber tutors mathematics. She was born in a small town in Iowa but has spent nearly her whole life in the Northern Colorado area. Amber is an alumnae of the Aims TRiO program. She earned her Associateís of Science degree from Aims, and is currently working on continuing her education.
