Tutoring: Guided Study Groups

Aims students have the opportunity to select classes that have a guided study group component.   Study groups will meet once a week in the Aims tutoring center, Greeley campus. A tutor will facilitate each guided study group.

Guided study groups are designed to:

  • foster independent student learning through structured study sessions.
  • provide a structured forum where students have access to a knowledgeable tutor.
  • utilize syllabi to determine course progress and assist students based on questions asked by the students.
  • enable students to form small groups to study together.
  • attendance is taken at each guided study group session.
  • attendance at guided study group sessions may be required; decision of instructor.

Enrollment in a guided study group occurs when a student registers for a class that has a listed Guided Study Group component.  Attendance is taken at each guided study group session and may be required; decision of instructor.

Students will not use guided study groups as a substitute for going to class.

Students in a guided study session may use drop-in tutoring but cannot have individual tutoring for a class with a guided study group.

For Spring 2010, certain sections of these classes are offered with a Guided Study Group:

  • ENG 030, ENG 060, ENG 090, REA 060, MAT 030.
