Aims Community College: What is a day in the life of an Executive Director, Human Resources like for you?
Dee Shultz: Exciting, challenging and full of learning opportunities. My job is to provide advice and counsel to the President and Cabinet on all matters related to employee relations. I stay up-to-date on all federal & state laws and regulations related to employment issues. I’m fortunate to work with a team who has expertise and specialties in all of the various areas such as benefits, class comp, position control, recruitment, professional development, wellness activities, legal and campus safety & security.
ACC: What makes Aims special/unique?
DS: I think that it is the people who work at Aims and the community that supports Aims that makes it special and unique. Every day I see dedication, passion and a caring for the students that we serve whether you are in the classroom or not. I see people who take pride in the work they do – look at our facilities and grounds for example. People who are willing to change, be creative and innovative, work at Aims which makes Aims very special.
ACC: What makes a student successful?
DS: Dedicated faculty and staff who are understanding, compassionate and remember what it was like to be a student.
ACC: What is your proudest achievement?
DS: Always being able to be there for my family and friends in a time of need. Learning from my parents and grandparents the value of hard work and dedication. At Aims – I was honored to be one of the first recipients of the Aardvark Award.
ACC: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
DS: I love nature and being outdoors - Colorado is a great place to live. I also enjoy gardening, watching baking shows and reading when I can.
ACC: Best thing about being an Executive Director of HR?
DS: The people I work with. The variety of the position and the challenges.
