Aims Community College: What is a day in the life of a Vice President for Student Engagement, Inclusion, and
Success (SEIS) like for you?
Sarah Wyscaver: Days in the SEIS division move fast! They are full of opportunities to positively impact students’ experiences and their development. My work reminds me of the power education has to change lives, create new legacies, and transform communities. I truly value working and learning with students and Aims employees toward a vision of a better world.
ACC: What makes Aims special/unique?
SW: Aims is a place where students are at the center of every decision. It is an institution that values the lessons of the past and embraces opportunities of the future. Aims expects excellence and provides meaningful support to ensure students attain that ideal.
ACC: What makes a student successful?
SW: Students are successful when they embrace the notion that they can and deserve to be successful. Often times, students are worried they don’t belong in college or that they don’t have what it takes to make it to their next goal. Even more often they believe they don’t deserve the opportunities in front of them. When students fully accept that they have a fundamental right to earn an education, nothing can stop them.
ACC: What makes your division the best?
SW: The SEIS division is full of people who are passionate about their work and connection to students. I am inspired everyday by the people I have the opportunity to work with and learn from.
ACC: What is your proudest achievement?
SW: I am very proud to have walked along side many successful students in my career who were courageous enough to change their stars.
ACC: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
SW: I love investing time with my human and furry family. I also enjoy learning to play golf!
ACC: The best thing about being a Vice President for SEIS?
SW: The best thing about my role is the opportunity I have to help make college a better, more developmental and holistic experience for students.
