Paramedic,  A.A.S. Degree

This degree is a combination of the courses required for the paramedic certificate and 15 credits of general education requirements. Students can complete the general education requirements at any time, but must meet all the prerequisites of the paramedic certificate prior to starting the paramedic classes.

Emergency Medical Technician – Emergency Medical Responder Certificate

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response. Emergency Medical Responders are the most entry level providers in pre-hospital care system. This course is also an excellent course for individuals needing basic first aid for personal use or for a business or industry setting. Prerequisites: AHA BLS certification.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. The Emergency Medical Technician course is a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare individuals for the National Registry certification exams. Prerequisites: AHA BLS certification, background check, and numerous immunizations.

Emergency Medical Technician – Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Certificate

The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. AEMT certification is a level between EMT and Paramedic with limited training in advanced procedures. Prerequisites: AHA BLS certification, EMT certification, background check, and numerous immunizations.

Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic Preparation Certificate

The Paramedic Preparation Certificate is designed to prepare the EMT or AEMT for the paramedic certificate and includes all the prerequisite courses and training required to apply for the paramedic program.

Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P) Certificate

The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. The Aims Community College paramedic program is an extensive 3 semester program and includes over 600 hours of classroom and lab work, 180 hours of training at clinical sites, and a 500 hour internship with an ALS transporting agency. Prerequisites: Prerequisites: AHA BLS certification, background check, and numerous immunizations, current EMT certification (EMS 121, 122, 123, 124 & 170), EMT-IV (EMS 130), and either BIO 106 or HPR 137. To be more competitive in the application process individuals should have a year or more of experience working as an EMT in the field.

Emergency Medical Technician – EKG Technician Certificate

EKG Technicians specialize in electrocardiography. This certificate prepares students to work in a hospital or clinical setting as an EKG Technician performing skills such as preparing the patient for an EKG, applying the electrodes, and obtaining a reading from the EKG machine for a physician to interpret.
