Prerequisite Information

Before students will be allowed to take FST 100 and 170, they must demonstrate that they have the physical ability to complete the skills required in the Fire Academy. Students can meet this requirement by providing proof of one of the following:

  1. Successfully completing a certified Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT). The CPAT certificate must be issued within 12 months of the start date of the Fire Academy.
  2. Documentation of another comparable Physical Agility Test within 12 months of the start date of the Fire Academy.
  3. Schedule an Academy Student CPAT date (no cost) and demonstrate your ability to pass the test (students will not receive an official CPAT certificate).

Students will be allowed to register for FST 100 and 170 prior to providing proof of the above, but will be dropped the first day of class if they fail to provide the required documentation to meet the prerequisite requirement.

Students are encouraged to enroll in FST 160 the semester before taking the fire academy if you are having problems passing the CPAT test.
