COVID-19 presents serious public health concerns. Aims Community College is committed to slowing the spread of the coronavirus, while maintaining our mission of teaching and service.
Social distancing is a key barrier to the spread of the virus. In a thoughtful effort to assist with this national task of social distancing, and in keeping with Aims policies, the following actions are in effect.
Spring Break Extended
Spring Break for students is extended through Sunday, March 29.
Student Events Canceled
All student events are cancelled March 14 – April 13 and will be reevaluated as new information becomes available.
Online and Campus-based Learning Actions
Most classes will resume in an online format for a two-week period beginning March 30 through April 13 and will be reevaluated as new information becomes available.
Select courses with a hands-on skill or competency will meet in person beginning the week of March 30.
All students, regardless of online or hands-on, will be contacted by their instructor through the D2L shell and Aims email with details. D2L shells can be accessed through the myAims portal: aims.edu
Faculty will prepare courses for online teaching during the week of March 23 – 27.
All campus for employees will remain open until further notice.
SEIS will provide essential student services March 30 – April 13 and will reevaluate as new information becomes available. Over the next three weeks, we are prepared to respond and support student needs in a remote and online environment. Essential Student Services will be available via three different modalities: online Zoom Conferencing, by phone, and by email. Aims students are encouraged to remain in contact with all each service area to ensure their academic goals remain intact as we move through this difficult experience together. It is undetermined at this time when Non-essential Student Services will resume student programming. For additional information from these departments, please contact the department by phone or by email.
Travel—Please follow the CDC guidelines for travel
Do not return to any campus if you meet the following criteria:
As you consider these measures, each of you are encouraged to model the Aims values of Authenticity and Truthfulness, Community, Equity and Respect, and Performance Excellence and Effectiveness which you do so well.
This is not how we anticipated to begin spring break. Please take preventive measures to protect yourself and those around you. Exercise extra caution when traveling and interacting. This includes washing your hands frequently with soap and water and avoiding shaking hands and other physical contact.
We will overcome this challenge together. Please monitor Aims COVID-19 (coronavirus) for updates and information in this rapidly evolving situation.
