The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. These provisions will apply from April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. See Employee Rights Poster.
Aims Community College implemented an Emergency Paid Time Off (EPTO) benefit for all employees which was communicated in a Notification on March 17, 2020. This benefit exceeds the required benefits under Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act (EPSLA) and, effective today, will be used for paid sick leave under the EPSLA if an employee has an EPSLA-qualifying reason. Under the EPSLA, employees have the option to use their basic leave benefits such as personal, annual or sick leave per Aims Community College, Leaves of Absence Policy 4-1600 and Leave Procedure 4-1600A prior to or after EPTO/EPSLA paid sick leave if they choose to do so.
Your supervisor should be contacting you within the next few days to see if you require leave. If so, please inform your supervisor or Human Resources with your preference to utilize EPTO/EPSLA paid sick leave first or your standard leave under Policy 4-1600 and Procedure 4-1600A.
Per FFCRA, the Family and Medical Leave Act has been expanded providing additional benefits under the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act (EFMLEA).
