Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) benefits provided by the federal government sunset effective December 31, 2020, therefore, Cabinet has approved a temporary COVID-19 Paid Leave (CPL) benefit for employees that will run in conjunction with the new Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act incorporated in Aims CC Leaves of Absences Procedure 529-01.
The CPL will be effective from January 1 through May 15, 2021.
The updated Leaves of Absences Procedure 529-01 includes components in the Use of Sick Leave portion of the procedure to address the impact to employees due to a public health emergency.
Per the new procedure, as of January 1, 2021, sick leave accrual will be as follows:
If a Public Health Emergency is declared, employees' sick leave will be front-loaded to ensure that employees have the required “paid two weeks leave” (80 hours for full-time and prorated for part-time) balance to support any COVID-19 related events.
Under normal circumstances the following monthly leave accruals apply:
COVID-19 Paid Leave will provide up to 14 days of paid leave per COVID-related incident after the employee has exhausted their current Sick Leave balance to 50% of current leave at the time of the request.
Other Considerations:
If a Public Health Emergency is declared, part-time employees will be able to exceed the cap of 48 hours to comply with the
two-week threshold leave balance, once they achieve the two-week threshold, monthly
leave accrual will stop.
