Pivoting in response to COVID-19 numbers

Dear Aims Family,

This whirlwind of a year has definitely given credence to the saying “change is the only constant.” As I’ve said before, thank you for your flexibility as we navigate the ever-changing nature of this pandemic.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise around Colorado and the nation, I’m writing to let you know how Aims is responding to the current situation.

The gist is this: we’ll be making some tweaks to limit the amount of people coming into contact with one another on our campuses for the rest of the calendar year. Aims will remain open and fully operational; we’ll just be pivoting to more remote operations where we can.

Before going into the details, I want to highlight the reasoning behind this approach. Our goal is to keep students moving forward in their classes — it’s the central reason we are all here. However, in times like this we have to strike a balance to do what’s best for our students and what’s best for the health and safety of everyone.

With that being said, beginning Monday, November 16 Aims will shift operations in the following ways:

  • Cabinet and senior leadership will re-evaluate who will work on campus vs. remotely. Supervisors will work with their division leadership to determine in-person vs. remote staffing. Limiting time on campus reduces the risk of exposure for those who need to be here.
  • The College will move away from remote-rotation schedules in order to reduce the potential for illness. SEIS remains available in person on all campuses for students who need direct in-person attention and will ask students to use remote services whenever possible.
  • Classes that can be conducted remotely will move to remote delivery for the rest of the semester; classes that require in-person learning will continue to be offered in person so students can finish their courses. Deans will be working with department chairs and faculty to determine changes in course delivery.
  • In-person meetings are discouraged; please conduct remote meetings whenever possible.

If you have questions about any of the above, please reach out to your supervisor, Executive/Vice President, or Human Resources. We’re all navigating this together, and I’m proud of all we have accomplished along the way. We’re in the home stretch of this semester — keep up the great work and keep taking care of each other!

Sincerely,

Dr. Leah L. Bornstein
