Advanced Emergency Medical TechnicianRequirements

Advanced EMT Certificate Requirements

Explore the classes that will teach you the skills you need to become an advanced EMT. Study anatomy and physiology and learn how to assess and treat medical and trauma emergencies and handle special emergency situations.

This two-semester advanced EMT certificate program consists of seven classes for a total of 13 credits. Study subjects including:

  • Advanced EMT Fundamentals
  • Advanced EMT Pharmacology
  • EMS IV/IO Therapy
  • Advanced Medical, Trauma and Special Emergencies

Lecture subjects coincide with labs that give you hands-on experience in realistic scenarios. Apply your skills in a clinical rotation in the community and gain real-world advanced EMT experience.

This program is also one of two elective credit options (along with Fire Academy) that can apply toward earning an EMS associate degree at Aims.

Refresher Class for Experienced EMTs

If you’re a basic EMT interested in refreshing your skills, a refresher class might be a good first step before pursuing the advanced EMT certificate.

The EMT refresher class (EMS 126) is for basic EMTs who need to meet recertification requirements for the state of Colorado or the NREMT exam. With a hybrid online lecture and in-person lab format, earn two continuing education (CE) credits for both NREMT recertification and Colorado registration renewal.

How to Apply to the Aims Advanced EMT Certificate Program

You must be a registered Colorado EMT with a valid AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR certification and meet all Aims background and immunization requirements to apply to the advanced EMT program. An application and interview process are the final steps before registering for classes.
