The Center for Diversity and Inclusion provides students with opportunities to connect with peers; discuss issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice; and to foster action and change through workshops, events, and gatherings.
CDI Peer Specialists are Aims student leaders who play a vital role in planning and coordinating a variety of events, programs, and campaigns related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice; in building community and connection with guests of the CDI; and in offering peer-to-peer social and cultural awareness building.
Meet our Peer Specialists:
- Kira Craft (she/her)
Hi! My name is Kira and I am the Veteran Peer Specialist for Aims. I am a mother to two young boys, I have been married to my husband for close to 7 years, and I am a full time student. My ultimate goal with school is to become a Physician's Assistant. I am attending Aims to get as many credits and prerequisites taken care of as I can before I transfer to UNC. I am a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success as well as the Vice President of Leadership for the Beta Kappa Lambda chapter of Phi Theta Kappa here at Aims.
- Jackie Estrada (she/her)
My name is Jacqueline Estrada and this is my 3rd semester here at Aims. I was born and raised in Colorado and let me tell you I love it here! My favorite things to do are hang out with friends, go camping, and go shopping! As my senior year in high school approached I started reading about community colleges near me and I came across Aims. At first my plan was to only attend Aims Community College for the Aims2UNC program. Later on I began to dig more into what my college had to offer and noticed the many great clubs and programs I could join in order to give back to my community.
As a student, who is both a first generation and Hispanic, finding help for my specific needs can be hard sometimes. Especially when it comes to exploring where you belong and finding your place. I’m excited to join the CDI because of the opportunities I’m offered in order to help other students. Being a part of the safe space the CDI has to offer is such a unique and gratifying experience. I’m majoring in Psychology.
- Hannah Vander Lugt (she/her)
My name is Hannah Vander Lugt, I will be a freshman starting in the fall, however, I was concurrently enrolled at my high school. I came to Aims because of my family, both my mom and my step-dad work here and it has been in my life since I was 4. In my free time I like to paint, read Stephen King, and binge watch my favorite Netflix shows. I am excited to be a part of the CDI because the work that we are doing is making positive change and a more inclusive environment at Aims. I am also excited to use my creativity and the creativity of the people around me to start having fun at events and making memories for everyone in the Aims community. I am currently in the Aims2UNC program. I want to get a communication degree, with a minor in business, as well as my real estate license.
