Philosophy
It is the philosophy of the Leaning Commons, including the Library, to make resources available to as many students and Aims employees as possible. The Learning Commons is a cooperative learning space that encourages academic proficiency through resource exploration, skill development, and social connectedness.
Expectations
Patrons will receive reminder notices via email regarding due dates and overdue items. If items are not returned, billing notices with replacement costs are emailed and mailed to patrons at the address on file with Aims Community College. Borrowed items are to be returned on or before their due dates to allow equitable access to resources for all patrons. Patrons are responsible for the care and security of all items.
Failure to return borrowed materials by the specified due date or returning items that are damaged will result in consequences outlined in this policy. Potential consequences include:
- Suspension of borrowing privileges
- Charges for replacement costs
- Locking of device access
- Placing of registration holds
- Billing through student accounts
- Placing of conduct holds
- Engagement of law enforcement
- Transfer of account to collection agency
The Learning Commons recognizes that extenuating circumstances may arise, preventing patrons from returning materials on time. Patrons experiencing such circumstances are encouraged to communicate with Learning Commons staff as soon as possible to discuss options for resolving any issues.
Outlined below are the Aims Community College policies, which guide students, employees and community members in how they may utilize the Library and Learning Common's services and resources.
Library Cards
Aims I.D. cards serve as the library card for employees and currently enrolled students. Other proper photo identification can also be used. Community members with proper photo identification can obtain a library card with limited privileges.
