Executive Vice President

As the principal aide to the President, the Executive Vice President plays a crucial role in overseeing all operations of the Office of the President, including management of staff, budgets, administration, policies, procedures, accreditation and institutional reporting.

The Executive Vice President is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the development of core initiatives for the Office of the President and serves as the President's primary strategic liaison with college and community constituencies. Working closely with vice presidents, other executive staff, and department managers, the EVP plans, directs and coordinates operational activities at the highest management level to ensure that Aims Community College operates at peak efficiency.

In addition to these critical responsibilities, the EVP serves as the point person for policy analysis and strategic consultation on major issues affecting the college. They also coordinate special projects on behalf of the President and participate in institutional planning, policy development, and problem resolution.

The Executive Vice President's areas of responsibility include these four areas:

  1. Serves as the lead executive and backup support for the CEO/President
  2. Institutional-wide special projects
  3. Leadership for the development, execution, and measurable outcomes of the Aims’ strategic plan
  4. Oversees the Accreditation/Compliance, BaJEDI and Institutional Research and Assessment departments.

Russ Rothamer

Executive Vice President

Dr. Russ Rothamer has been the Executive Vice President of Aims Community College since July 2018. With over 35 years of experience in higher education and business, he brings unique experiences from both worlds, helping to drive results at Aims. Russ is a team player who values collaboration and likes to have fun at work. 

Before joining Aims, Russ served as the Chief of Staff and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs for the Alabama Community College System. He spearheaded system-wide initiatives for all 24 colleges in Alabama, leaving a lasting impact on the state's educational landscape.

Russ also spent 13 years leading academic teams in Wisconsin as the Dean of Business and International Programs and in Arizona as the Vice President of Academic Affairs. He knows what it takes to create a culture of excellence with a primary focus of supporting employees as we all work together to serve the students and communities in our area. 

What sets Russ apart is his experience in the corporate world. After his faculty and administrative leadership experiences at the University of Florida, he spent seven years leading educational and training initiatives for the Walt Disney Company in Florida and California. As a leader within Disney University, Russ created and led a team to deliver a magical learning, living and earning experience that was recommended for credit by the American Council on Education.

Russ earned an Associate of Arts degree from Santa Fe Community College, as well as a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Education, a Specialist in Education, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Florida. He's a lifelong learner who's always looking for new ways to grow and develop.

When he's not busy adding value to the world of education, Russ is devoted to his family. He's been married to his wife Nancy for almost 40 years, and they have three daughters - Kaitlyn, Jessica, and Lauren.
