Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Aims' CDL program will prepare you for the high-demand career of truck driving, offering certifications in Class A and Class B. Gain the knowledge and skills through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-road training with our top-notch instructors in an industry-recognized program. We will help you build confidence and gain an understanding of the industry, as well as learn the safety requirements that will prepare you for a job in this well-paying field.

Current Class Information

This program for those who do not hold a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP). Daily classes are seven hours in length with two hours on Friday for review prior to the day the student takes their test at the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle). Graduates receive a Class A or B CLP from the DMV upon passage of the written test. Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to operate a commercial vehicle as a learner when accompanied by a driver who holds the proper endorsements for the vehicle on which they are training.

The Class A program is for those who currently hold a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP).

The Class A program includes:

  • FMCSA training on federal regulations, with which drivers will need to comply for Record of Duty Status (Log Book).
  • FMCSA Level One inspection guidelines training, which drivers encounter once they enter the transportation industry.

Students study the various aspects of operating a CMV with an instructor. Afternoon classes are held in the classroom, covering rules, regulations, and obtaining certificates. This will allow students to be more marketable for their new career in the transportation industry.

Daily classes are eight hours in length with six hours being in field and two hours in the classroom.

Graduates receive a Class A CDL from the state DMV. Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to work in an entry-level driver position.

This is 150-hour course is for students who need to obtain their CLP and DOT medical card and be ready to enter the CDL Class A course. Students study the CDL manual to obtain their Commercial License Permit (CLP). They also obtain their DOT medical card. Once they have their CLP and DOT medical card, students complete the 120-hour CDL A course.

The Class A program includes:

  • FMCSA training on federal regulations, with which drivers will need to comply for Record of Duty Status (Log Book).
  • FMCSA Level One inspection guidelines training, which drivers encounter once they enter the transportation industry.

This one-week course provides 40 hours of field training with an instructor in a class B vehicle. Students take their CDL test the weekend after completion of their 40 hours of field training.

Daily classes are eight hours in length with six hours being in field and two hours in the classroom.

Graduates receive a Class B CDL from the state DMV. Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to work in an entry-level driver position.

Graduates are tested by our third-party, state-certified testers. Students take their CDL test the weekend after completion of their 40 hours of field training. They then receive a Class B CDL from the State DMV. Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to work in an entry-level driver position.

Students spend 30 hours completing skills training with a field instructor. CDL test follows the Friday after completion of the course. This course is taken with a vehicle with an automatic transmission, so a restriction is added to their CDL.

Test for class A or B vehicle. Clients rent a vehicle from Aims Community College.

Students are trained on Pre-Trip, Basic Skills, and Road Driving. Students may elect to have specific training for any of the categories as needed. Training is typically done Monday-Friday on a first-come-first-serve basis and is contingent upon vehicle and trainer availability.
