Alternative Work

Aims supports formal alternative work arrangements in cases where individual, job, department and College needs are best suited to such an arrangement. Alternative arrangements are available through Flexible Work and Telework options.

Please use the information below to determine if your current need falls under Flexible Work or Telework. Once you have determined which category is appropriate, review the procedure, process and forms to request approval associated with that type of alternative arrangement.

Flexible Work

Flexible work schedules enable an employee to still complete forty hours (36 during the summer schedule) of work during a work week (Saturday - Friday). This arrangement may include varying the time of day, days of the week or both. It can also include a modified lunch/uninterrupted break

Telework

A Telework arrangement allows an employee to work off campus. This arrangement could be fully remote or allow the employee a hybrid schedule where they work some days on campus and others off campus.

Examples of Telework:

Employee is moving out of state.
Employee wants to reduce commute time.

Other Scenarios

Scenarios where an employee may request approval to work remotely short-term, such as a day or week at a time. The employee’s supervisor/department can approve and document these requests.

  • For example, the employee's child is home sick. Employees could request approval to work remotely that day. No telework agreement is required due to the length of the request.
  • For example, an employee is joining a virtual conference for 3 days. Employees could request approval to work remotely on those days. No telework agreement is required due to the length of the request.
  • For example, an Employee is recovering from being sick, is well enough to work but may still be contagious.
