Colorado Medication Aide (COMA) CertificateRequirements

Before you can begin the program admission process, you must first apply to Aims for free. 

To begin the admissions process and become certified as a medication aide in Colorado, you'll need to meet or complete the following prerequisites and requirements:

  • Possess an active, unencumbered Colorado nurse aide certification
  • Possess a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma
  • Be no less than 18 years of age
  • Complete no less than 1000 hours of documented work as a CNA within the last 24 months or the equivalent for individuals from the United States military
  • Possess a recommendation to become a medication aide from the CNA’s current supervising nurse, director of nursing, or nursing home administrator
  • Provide proof of completion of a state-approved nurse aide training program
  • Pass a basic English and Math test, which will be administered on the first day of class
  • Undergo a background check/Drug Screening (Student Pays Fee)
  • Provide immunization records

Once you have applied to Aims, complete your application to the Colorado Medication Aide program

Before beginning the program, you will need to attend a mandatory orientation. The next orientation date for the Fall 2025 semester is Friday, August 22 at 3:30 p.m.
