Professional Background

Dr. Strauss has been in Higher Education since the mid-1980s. He began his career as an adjunct instructor while completing his doctorate degree. He was a Counseling Psychologist at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for four years. He began his full time teaching career (psychology) at State Fair Community College in 1998.  While at SFCC (12.5 years) he became the department chair for Humanities, Fine Arts, and Social Sciences and later an associate dean. He continued working in administration when he became the Dean of General Studies & General Education at Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin from 2011 – 2018. Dr. Strauss and his family moved to Colorado in 2018 when he was hired as the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs at Aims C.C. He moved into his current position, Program Director of the Learning Commons, in 2020 which allowed him to return to the classroom as a psychology adjunct instructor.

Personal Information

Dr. Strauss is married, and together he and his wife have three amazing children. The Strauss family is fortunate to live in the Loveland mountains with multiple animals (furry, feathered, and scaly). In his spare time you’ll find the Strauss family hiking, bicycling or paddle boarding, as they love an active lifestyle. The Strauss family have been Vegan for many years, and Dr. Strauss is a long time meditator and is passionately committed to Holistic Health and Wellness.
