Colorado Medication Aide Certification
Do you have experience working as a Certified Nurse Aide? If you'd like to add to your skillset, the Colorado Medication Aide Certification Program at Aims is an affordable way to gain the essential knowledge and skills to become a competent medication aide in healthcare settings in Colorado. This comprehensive course combines theoretical learning with practical hands-on training to ensure you are proficient in safely and effectively administering medications.
This course is designed for individuals who have already been actively working as Certified Nurse Aides aspiring to become certified medication aides in Colorado.
In this program, you'll study subjects including:
- Pharmacology
- Medication administration techniques
- Medication safety protocols
- Legal and ethical considerations
- Communication skills
- Drug classifications
- Dosage calculations
- Routes of administration
- Recognizing adverse reactions
Upon successfully completing the Colorado Medication Aide Certification Program and passing the state certification exam, you will be certified as a Medication Aide in Colorado. Before starting work at the clinical sites, you will need to prove standard immunizations, submit to a background check, and pass a drug screening.
Plan Ahead to Attend the Medication Aide Orientation

Before you can begin the program admission process, you must first apply to Aims for free.
To begin the admissions process and become certified as a medication aide in Colorado, you'll need to meet or complete the following prerequisites and requirements:
- Possess an active, unencumbered Colorado nurse aide certification
- Complete no less than 1000 hours of documented work as a CNA within the last 24 months or the equivalent for individuals from the United States military
- Possess a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma
- Be no less than 18 years of age
- Possess a recommendation to become a medication aide from the CNA’s current supervising nurse, director of nursing, or nursing home administrator
- Provide proof of completion of a state-approved nurse aide training program
- Pass a basic English and Math test, which will be administered on the first day of class
- Undergo a background check/Drug Screening (Student Pays Fee)
- Provide immunization records
Once you have applied to Aims, complete your application to the Colorado Medication Aide program.
Before beginning the program, you will need to attend a mandatory orientation. The next orientation date for the Fall 2025 semester is Friday, August 22 at 3:30 p.m.
