Learn Fundamental Healthcare Skills with a Medical Preparation Certificate
Certificates are a great way to acquire new skills in less time than a degree program requires. The Aims medical preparation certificate program is a merit scholarship dual enrollment opportunity that gives high school students the chance to earn college credit and finish the program by earning six healthcare certificates:

Introduction to Allied Health Certificate
This certificate is offered exclusively to high school students enrolled in the College in High School program. Earn six college credits while in high school by studying the basics of allied health careers, medical terminology and emergency responses.

HPR-1003 - Success Seminar
Explores and engages success strategies for students entering the allied health programs. Included are topics related to support team building, learning styles, study skills, note taking, and test-taking specific to the health care professional programs. Department approval is required. HPR-1040 - Comprehensive Medical Terminology
Provides an in-depth study of the structure of medical terms with emphasis on using and combining common prefixes, roots and suffixes. This course includes terms related to major body systems, oncology, and psychiatry as well as clinical laboratory and diagnostic procedures, and imaging, and provides accepted pronunciation of terms and relative use in the healthcare setting. Course is not repeatable for credit.

HWE-1004 - Responding to Emergencies
Trains health care providers and fitness professionals in basic life support (BLS), two-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with automated external defibrillator (AED), and standard first aid with attention to sudden illness, specific diseases, and emergencies. Nurse Aide Certificate
This 5-to-6-week program gives you the knowledge and hands-on lab and clinical skills to prepare for a state exam and become a certified nurse aide. Learn basic care techniques including helping with personal hygiene and grooming, eating and drinking, taking vital signs and using assistive medical equipment. NUA-1001 - Nurse Aide Health Care Skills
Prepares the student to perform the fundamental skills of the nurse aide. Basic nursing skills, communication skills, restorative services, personal care skills, safety and emergency care issues are covered. Includes knowledge and/or principles of asepsis, OSHA and HIPAA regulations. Ethical behaviors, cultural sensitivity and principles of mental health will be addressed, as well as patient/resident rights. Department approval is required. This course has admission requirements. Discusses current market trends in the medical profession, professional opportunities, continuing education, and professional affiliations. Discussions regarding resumes, portfolios, letters of inquiry, and interviewing techniques, as well as job search information is provided. This course is primarily informational and provides information to the student about aspect of career choices. Department approval is required. This course has admission requirements.
