TRIO Student Support Services

The mission of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Programs at Aims ​​​​​Community College is to assist first generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities to achieve maximum academic success and career readiness. TRIO SSS will empower students to develop academic skills and experiences necessary to complete their postsecondary educational goals while promoting an inclusive and diverse community.

TRIO Services are provided to students at all campuses, with the main TRIO office located on the Greeley Campus.

About TRIO SSS

TRIO SSS is one of eight federally funded programs designed to provide services and assistance to low-income individuals, first-generation college students* and students with disabilities to maximize their educational opportunities. 

TRIO SSS Grants are awarded to higher education institutions like Aims in order to offer free academic services to eligible participants. As a federally-funded program, all SSS projects are required to provide the TRIO services outlined by the U.S. Department of Education to help students successfully complete their postsecondary education.

    After you have filled out the application, please turn it into the TRIO office in Student Commons 240 on the Greeley Campus* or email it to triosss@aims.edu. If eligible, you will be contacted to meet with an advisor for an informal program interview.

TRIO Benefits

Both TRIO SSS (Classic and STEM) programs offer benefits and support to historically underrepresented students. TRIO SSS works side by side with eligible students to aid them in successfully reaching their academic, transfer and/or career goals.

Benefits and services for those who qualify and are accepted include:

  • Access to free tutoring
  • Academic, transfer, graduation and career planning
  • Connections to financial aid, scholarships and financial literacy
  • College tours and cultural events
  • Student development workshops
  • Study area with computer and printer use
  • Priority Registration
  • Building connections across campus and a sense of belonging, inclusion, and community.

Students who successfully complete one semester in the TRIO SSS Classic or STEM program may be eligible to receive federal grant aid funds to assist with the cost of attending Aims Community College.

TRIO Programs at Aims

Aims Community College offers two TRIO SSS programs at all campuses.

TRIO SSS Classic is for students pursuing a wide variety of degrees and certificates at Aims Community College. TRIO SSS STEM is for students pursuing a STEM-related career path. More information as well as eligibility and participation requirements for each program can be found below.

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Classic Program focuses on actively supporting eligible students at Aims who are pursuing a wide variety of degrees and certificates at Aims Community College.

TRIO Classic provides academic services, cultural enrichment experiences, and transfer and career readiness activities. 

TRIO SSS Classic Eligibility Requirements

TRIO Student Support Services-Classic program eligibility for participation is determined by the Department of Education. To be eligible, students must:

  • Be accepted to, or enrolled at, Aims Community College (with a 2.0 or higher GPA and in good academic standing)
  • Demonstrate a need for academic support (such as requiring further academic advising, career planning, tutoring, writing assistance, etc.)
  • Identify in one or more of the following groups:
    • financially limited according to federal guidelines
    • a first-generation college student* (neither parent received an Associate’s or a Bachelor's degree before the student turned 18 years of age)
    • Have a documented disability
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

TRIO Classic SSS Participation Requirements

Students who are accepted into the program are expected to fulfill the following participation requirements:

  • Must be enrolled and attend classes at Aims
  • Must attend a minimum of two advising sessions per semester with assigned Academic Advisor
  • Must complete financial wellness requirements
  • Must complete a minimum of two of the following (students MUST sign-in to receive credit for services): Workshops, Writers' Community, TRIO SSS sponsored workshops, transfer initiatives, tutoring, cultural immersion, etc. See your advisor for details and additional opportunities for activities.

To apply, complete and submit a TRIO SSS application and email it to triosss@aims.edu or turn it into the TRIO office in Student Commons 240 on the Greeley campus. If eligible, you will be contacted to meet with an advisor for an informal program interview.

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) STEM program is dedicated to providing academic support, resources and opportunities to participants who are looking to pursue an academic and/or career path in the field(s) of science, technology, engineering, math or health sciences. 

The program fosters a proactive approach to exposing participants to, and giving them experiences within, the STEM industry. 

TRIO SSS STEM Eligibility Requirements

TRIO SSS STEM program eligibility for participation is determined by the Department of Education. To be eligible, students must:

  • Accepted to, or currently enrolled at, Aims Community College (with a 2.0 or higher GPA and in good academic standing)
  • Demonstrate a need for academic support (such as requiring further STEM academic advising, career planning, tutoring, writing assistance, etc.)
  • Identify with one or more of the following groups:
    • Financially limited according to federal guidelines
    • First-generation college student* (neither parent has received a bachelor's degree)
    • Have a documented disability
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

TRIO SSS STEM Participation Requirements

*A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a bachelor's degree (graduated from a 4-year institution). Even if a sibling has attended a 4-year college and received a bachelor’s degree, you would still be considered first-generation.
