After waiting 15 years to return to school to complete her art studies, Felisha Bustos found a place she belonged at Aims. “I was with people who had characteristics in common with me. I felt empowered, confident, and hopeful for my future.”

Photo of new mural at the Aims Student CommonsInstructor Daniel Augenstein had a significant impact on Felisha. “He had a great balance of instruction and allowing us to learn on our own. Also, I knew he cared about me as a person beyond the classroom.”

Supportive instructors and fellow students helped Felisha achieve her goal of completing her Associate's degree in Liberal Arts in 2016. She went on to UNC to continue her art studies.

Felisha’s entrepreneurial spirit has led to jobs teaching individual and group art lessons and commissioned murals for schools in District 6 and the City of Greeley.

One of her proudest accomplishments is being selected to create a mural for the renovated Student Commons on the Greeley campus. Felisha was tasked with creating a visual display about resilience, determination, grit, and strength. She got to work incorporating symbols of dreams, goals, and endless possibilities, as well as Aims imagery. Felisha selected the people in the mural because of their stories and their diversity, ages, and walks of life represented Aims. She estimates it took her 250 hours to complete.
