With a generation of technicians retiring from a quickly growing industry, the need for skilled aircraft mechanics is vital. This in-depth training program provides a comprehensive education in aviation mechanics and systems and prepares you to sit for the FAA Part 147 exam for certification in airframes and powerplants.

Aircraft maintenance technicians inspect, repair and provide maintenance service for commercial aviation aircraft, business jets, smaller general aviation aircraft and helicopters of all sizes. Whether you want to work in general aviation, business aviation, or commercial aviation and aerospace, this program prepares you for careers at major airlines, aircraft manufacturers, aircraft maintenance repair stations, structural repair facilities and other aviation-related and repair organizations.

The program is one of just a few aircraft maintenance training programs of this caliber in Colorado. Courses will combine lectures and hands-on training using advanced technology equipment and machinery in a state-of-the-art aviation training facility.

In this program, you’ll learn to approach each system or component with a clear understanding of how it is intended to operate and function and the effects of environmental deterioration, accidental damage and fatigue damage from use. Experienced Instructors use proven industry-standard techniques that guide you in fault isolation, troubleshooting and repair of aircraft and aircraft systems

This interactive, immersive training program provides an in-depth education in aviation maintenance and systems. The new, nearly 60,000-square-foot Aircraft Maintenance Training Center at Aims includes classrooms, labs and hangars for hands-on training and practice troubleshooting, repairing and performing maintenance on aircraft.

As an Aviation Maintenance Technology student, you’ll work with:

  • Aircraft structures
  • Reciprocating, turbine and turbojet engines
  • Rotorcraft and sUAS Aircraft
  • Hydraulics
  • Electrical wiring and avionics
  • Flight instruments
  • Other aviation components and systems

This program prepares you for the FAA Part 147 exams for airframe and powerplant certifications. Testing fees are included in the cost of the program. 

Gain Aviation Mechanical and Professional Skills

Upon successful completion of the Aircraft Maintenance Technology degree, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to research, troubleshoot and repair aircraft and aircraft components.
  • Demonstrate the ability to correctly read, understand and apply the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and other FAA documentation.
  • Complete a series of FAA-written certification exams as well as a series of oral and practical exams administered by an FAA-designated Mechanic Examiner for certification.

With a workforce retiring faster than new mechanics can be trained in an industry that continues to grow, the need for skilled technicians is urgent. This training teaches the foundations that set you up to work in all sectors of the aviation industry including:
