Master Automobile DieselRequirements

In six semesters, explore the classes that will teach you to understand and repair the various mechanical and technological systems that keep diesel vehicles running smoothly. Learn to diagnose and repair diesel cars, light trucks and heavy equipment.

In addition to classes in general automotive service, including electrical, steering, HVAC, and transmissions and transaxles, you’ll gain knowledge and skills in diesel vehicle engines and systems, including:

  • Diesel automotive shop safety
  • Diesel mechanics
  • Brake systems
  • Cab, electrical and engine systems PMI
  • Diesel engines and fuel systems
  • Air induction and exhaust systems

Expand your learning experience with general education classes that teach you the practical soft skills employers want. Choose courses in mathematics, communications, business, science and humanities.

 

Major Requirements

First Semester

  • Focuses on maintaining a safe and clean working heavy duty diesel shop. Emphasis is placed on the proper use and care for hand, electric, air and hydraulic tools safely. Covers how to clean equipment properly, to handle and dispose of hazardous materials correctly, and to apply mandated regulations. Emphasis is also placed on proper lifting equipment. Differential tuition rates apply. Department approval is required.   • Covers safety instruction in the shop and on the automobile. Emphasis on the proper use and care of test equipment, precision measuring and machining equipment, gaskets, adhesives, tubing, wiring, jacks, presses, and cleaning equipment and techniques.
